NAME THE NOLES

Backstory:

The Issue--Native American Groups have long protested the use of names and related descriptors as racist. Some go as far as to say that a word such as "redskins" is as offensive to them as the word "n*gger" would be to an African American, or "honkey" would be to a caucasion.

For the Universities: these names have been in use for decades. These mascots have personified the University's spirit and as important, represent a large financial investment.

The decision: The NCAA has debated this controversy for over ten years and they are due to make a decision by the end of August, which may possibly ban the use of Native American names for sports teams.
