--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Dr.,
We know someone who swam at our neighborhood swim club in the baby pool yesterday and today they called to tell me that they have been dx'd w/ impetigo and put on antibiotics. Should I call the pool manager and alert them about this situation?

Sincerely,
KH

DEAR CATHERINE: YES, alert the pool manager.

impetigo is a bacterial infection caused which is spread by contact. pool chemicals can kill bacteria but often the levels of chemicals may be low or inadequate. alerting the manager will help them insure the chemical levels are satisfactory, and also, alert other parents to be on the lookout for unusual rashes should they occur.
